Gord’s career has consisted of getting major civil works projects planned, approved and completed. Having worked his way out of the construction trenches to become a leading force in his sphere, he was putting together a book to encapsulate all he’d learned. Its purpose: To serve as a blueprint for future-proofing Ontario. The man needed an editor.

After meeting him and indulging in a martini-assisted primer on the inner workings of Ontario infrastructure, Gord sent me his manuscript – with the caution that he was no writer, and that he’d availed himself of a little ChatGPT along the way. I went to work, first eliminating hundreds of AI clichés and repetitive figures of speech. I smoothed out the prose, ensured chapters worked in service to their titles and shrunk it by 20%, organizing Gord’s treatise into something I reckoned any curious soul would enjoy reading.
