This website, paulfenn.com, is operated by Paul Fenn, a freelance writer based in Ontario, Canada (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what your choices are. I handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What I collect
Information you send me. When you use the contact form, you give me your name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message. If you email or call me directly, I receive whatever you choose to share.
Usage data. The site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use it, for example which pages are viewed and roughly where visitors are located. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects your IP address and device and browser information.
Security and technical data. Like most websites, the site and its hosting provider automatically record technical information such as IP addresses and browser type, to keep the site secure and working properly.
How I use it
- To reply to your inquiry and, if we work together, to manage that project.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
- To protect the site from spam, fraud and attacks.
I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and I do not add you to a mailing list without your permission.
Third-party services
The site relies on a few outside services that may process your information on my behalf:
- Google Analytics: website statistics (Google’s privacy policy)
- Google Fonts: typefaces displayed on the site, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers
- HostGator and Cloudflare: website hosting and content delivery
- Wordfence: website security and spam protection
Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses cookies only for analytics (Google Analytics). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
How long I keep it
I keep messages and project correspondence only as long as needed to respond to you, carry out our work together, and meet my business and tax record-keeping obligations. Website backups are kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
How I protect it
The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, security software and regular backups. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, subject to any legal obligation to keep it. You can also withdraw your consent to my using it. To do any of these, email me at [email protected]. If you’re not satisfied with my response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
This site is intended for businesses and adults and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
